Japanse fotograaf gewond in Kashmir
Takeshi Sakuragi, a Japanese freelance news photographer, was injured in a shoot-out between Indian soldiers and separatist militants, in Srinagar, November 15, 2005. At least four people were killed and nearly a dozen, including Sakuragi, were wounded on Monday when suspected Muslim militants threw a grenade at a police post in a crowded market in Indian Kashmir's main city and exchanged fire with policemen.
Tasheki was taking photographs at the encounter site when a bullet hit his jaw-bone. But he managed to walk towards a group of journalists at a safe distance. With his face smeared in blood, people initially mistook him for a Ladakhi vendor. He was rushed to the hospital and had to undergo a surgery. Doctors later said he has received multiple fractures in his jaw-bone but is out of danger.
Having come all alone to the valley, there were only a group of his journalist friends to take care of him. Khursheed, a local reporter said Takeshi had come to valley to cover the earthquake. He was staying at Naya Kashmir hotel in front of the encounter site.
